Italian summer: MILAN EDITION

Hey my loves,

So I have been back from my Italian summer for 4 weeks now and I have finally found the time to sit down and write this post about the places that I've visited. So let's start with Milan - the city I visited twice within August.

This was the first time I've been to Milan (had only been to Rome before) and I wish I had chosen a better time to go. Why? Because Milan is almost DEAD in August. It felt like there were barely any people, just a few tourists around the Duomo and that's it. Also a lot of shops were closed during the whole of August and would have only opened again in September. Turns out August is the holiday month and most Italians are out of town (we didn't know that before). And on top of that, BOTH Vogue kiosks were closed too (jup, there goes my cliché Milan photo in front of it but oh well, I still tried to make it work).
But we were lucky to have had an amazing hotel during our stay in Milan because we spent most of the time in our suite and barely bothered spending time outside. As you might have seen on my Instagram we stayed in the World Hotel Cristoforo Colombo which is a 4 Star hotel only 10 walking minutes away from the Duomo and the Galleria. This was one of the prettiest hotels I've ever stayed in and also the first time in such a big suite. Especially the view from our terrace got me hooked! We even ordered food in on one night and ate it while watching TV in the living room because it was just too cosy. So I believe this is what you call #hotelgoals when you'd rather spend time in the hotel than outside exploring the city HAHA. The hotel also has an amazing SPA called the Hado Spa which looks so calm and oriental. You can book massages, beauty treatments or just enjoy the pool or the sauna. And of course there is also a little fitness area which I of course had to try out myself! :-)

Even though we didn't get to visit many places in Milan, I can still list a few of my favorite restaurants that I can totally recommend to you:

SPONTINI - this is a pizza chain here in Milan and it is AMAZING!! We went there on our first night when it was already 12am and we were craving some food! They have great Pizza which is also  not expensive at all - so perfect for a snack in between!
San Pietro - Another restaurant, but also perfect to just go for drinks. This restaurant caught our eye on our way back to the hotel because it is right opposite the Cristoforo Colombo. The atmosphere here is super lovely and prices are totally ok even though it looks quite fancy.
Motta Milano - this is more on the pricey side but still worth every penny. This restaurant / cafe is in the Galleria (hence the overpricing) and has amazing food. We had Pizza and some honey - chicken salad which must have been one of the best food I've ever had.

So I have to say Milan is a great city (especially for shopping & food) but you should definitely avoid coming here in July / August if you want to make the most of it. I still enjoyed it very much and had amazing food and would definitely come back here again (obviously during fall). I believe it's amazing now in September/October especially because of Fashion week etc. when the city must be super busy and lively.

Have a great week,
xoxo Sonia
